For a long time, the primary activity of the farm was livestock farming, but in the past two decades it has also become known for cheese-making. Cheese-making at Pustotnik farm began in 1988. Žuža and Milan Brence, the owners of the farm, started to process the milk from their cows in a small, simple cheese dairy, thus reviving the craft that had been present in this area centuries ago. They were hard-working and very enthusiastic about cheese-making, so they soon put the knowledge acquired abroad into practice. They started a tradition which is still present almost a quarter of a century later…
Nowadays, Pustotnik cheese dairy is no longer limited only to processing cow’s milk from Pustotnik farm – the production has expanded to processing goat’s and sheep’s milk from other nearby farms. This makes Pustotnik cheese dairy one the few cheese dairies in Central Europe which offer products from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk.
The farm and the cheese dairy have made an immense progress through the years. Today, our customers are offered more than seventy different products. The high quality of domestic production, which we find extremely valuable and important, prompts us to use traditional methods of cheese-making despite the ever-increasing production.
