However, despite being less than an hour's drive form Slovenia's three largest urban centres (Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje) and being the country's 5th largest city itself, Velenje, is still largley undiscoverd by tourists, both domestic and foregin.
You can truly experience a myriad of things in the Savinja and Šalek valleys. Those more active will enjoy the numerous hiking and biking trails, mountain paths, and water activities, with the winter offering encompassing skiing, cross-country skiing, sledging and ice climbing.
