The Alpine Dairy museum, housed in Stara Fužina in the abandoned village cheese-dairy, first opened in 1971, was extended and further augmented in 1990. In 1883, a cheese-dairy was built in Stara Fužina in Bohinj where cheese was made until as late as 1967 and where the cheese masters looked after large cheeses brought down from the mountains by the carriers in the summer time.

The original cheese-making workshop is preserved in the museum, with two large built-in kettles for making cheese and a press for shaping it. Also on exhibit are the original tools and utensils used by the Alpine dairymen, and they illustrate their work on the mountains. A typical wooden Alpine herdsman or dairymen hut, built in 1849, and all its furnishings from the Zajamniki mountain pasture, is also open to the public.

Through various artefacts, photographs and documents, the history of Alpine dairy-making in Bohinj is also exhibited in its original environment, showing the life of the dairymen, the cheese-diaries and dairy production in the mountains, transport to the valley and the typical Alpine dairymen settlements and huts in Bohinj.
